About North Star Carbon & Impact

Built by the people who used to do this by hand.

After 14 years of conducting GHG emissions inventories for companies, sustainability expert Josh Prigge partnered with two long-time colleagues and friends to give companies a better solution. North Star Carbon & Impact was born.

Why we exist

A better way, built by the people who needed it.

For years, our founders did carbon accounting the hard way: manual inventories, endless spreadsheets, and software that promised more than it delivered. They knew the market needed something better, so they built it.

Before launch, North Star Carbon & Impact partnered with three well-known American brands to test the platform in the real world. The result is enterprise carbon accounting software shaped by decades of hands-on GHG inventory experience, designed to be the easiest to use on the market.

Practitioners first, software people second.

Mike Wakeland
Co-Founder

Mike is an entrepreneur and executive leader with more than 20 years of experience building, leading, and scaling organizations across the private and nonprofit sectors, including several international companies. His focus has been building high-performing teams, driving sustainable revenue growth, and turning strong ideas into scalable businesses.

His path to North Star began through Sustridge, the sustainability consulting firm founded by Josh Prigge, where he saw how organizations struggled to manage carbon inventories and reporting through manual, hard-to-scale processes. He saw the opportunity to pair that sustainability expertise with technology, shaping North Star into a practical business solution rather than just powerful software.

A graduate of Indiana University with a degree in Public Affairs, Mike is focused on closing the gap between sustainability expertise and business execution, so organizations do not need to become carbon accounting experts to understand and act on their emissions.
